Ocean-bound plastic is waste close enough to shore to end up in the ocean. Rain, wind, and tides carry it from rivers, beaches, and communities into the water - impacting landcapes, food chains and wildlife across the globe.

Stopping it before it reaches the ocean protects the planet we love to explore.

WHAT PLASTIC GETS COLLECTED?

  • 80% of ocean plastic comes from flexible and multilayer packaging — things like snack packets, wrappers, and sachets.
  • These plastics are not recyclable, meaning they’re usually burned, dumped, or swept away into nature.
  • While recyclables like water bottles often get collected because they have value, non-recyclable plastics are the real threat.

CleanHub collects all plastics, but prioritises these non-recyclables to maximise environmental impact and reduce the most harmful waste.
